KNUTSFORD.' Welcome to the home of Elizabeth Gaskell's CRANFORD'

King Street with its landmark Gaskell Tower, Church Hill with its cobbles and brightly painted facades, Regent Street - Knutsford's new shopping street, Tatton Park with its stunning landscaped gardens and magnificent hall hosting events including the RHS Flower Show make Knutsford the ideal Cheshire Leisure Break destination. It was no coincidence that David Beckham and his wife Victoria were charmed by the unique character of Knutsford and frequently chose to dine at the Belle Epoque Brasserie when David was playing at Manchester United and living in Alderley Edge.

Tatton Park Biennial 2010 makes a Splash

Leviathan - sized lily pads, a collapsing tree house, giant doll’s house, ‘fossilisation machine’ and a two-tonne block of ice carried from Greenland; just a taste of a number of extraordinary artworks envisioned for Tatton Park Biennial 2010.
From 8 May – 26 September 2010, this unique contemporary art event returns to Tatton Park.  Over 20 emerging and internationally recognised artists will create new works inspired by and for the Mansion, Parkland and Gardens.
These diverse and dynamic works have been specially commissioned for Tatton Park Biennial 2010 and will have their world premieres at the historic estate in rural east Cheshire.
A proposal for one piece, Lily, can be seen below.  Renowned environmental artist, Steve Messam, will create a beautiful trail of bright red lily pads across Tatton Mere. At five metre diameter, they will be large and striking enough to be seen from aeroplanes on Manchester Airport’s flight path.

LOVE KNUTSFORD - A Gastronomic Affair

It is well-known that Knutsford is the finest place for a Gastronomic Affair.
First stop LOCH FYNE It’s a place that has passion. And it makes you feel special. Plus, the food is delicious and practically guilt-free! There’s no need to count calories as every mouthful is full of good oils and brimming with omega 3.  Savouring oysters is like tasting a seaside memory (try the little devils coated in garlic breadcrumbs for a cross-channel moment). The fish soup is legendary. The smoked salmon deserves its awards. The pan-fried bream melts in the mouth and the olive oil mash is creamy and divine. The chips are already the best in town and even the colourful desserts look and taste like superfoods.

KNUTSFORD's Girl about Town
A unique review for Knutsford residents and visitors.

Knutsford - Shaping up for Christmas

Having spent time away this summer, I returned to take a fresh look at Knutsford. Our town, perhaps more than most, is in a constant state of flux. You go away for a week and come back to find an old favourite has shut up shop. Two doors down someone new is setting up. This rapid turnover is perhaps because the survival of many of our retailers depends on visitors – and they’re an unpredictable lot.

George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor and MP for Tatton - Ask Your MP a Question?

My Question to George Osborne ........

Will you please change the way housing benefit
payments are made to the unemployed. I have
lost several thousand pounds this year due
to rent being paid directly to the tenants.
Also - I worked for the Conservative Party in Manchester, and have brought up 5 children on my own and now run my own business.
I have worked extremely hard to get where I am and cannot stand the way the benefit
handouts are given to people who will never
work, or pay their bills, surely the government
should work with the energy companies and
make sure the utlilty bills are paid and the
money is not spent on booze and cigs.

Ms. Panter

Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford - Knutsford A History - By Joan Leach

One does not have to be a close observer in Knutsford to notice signs of Cranford days: Gaskell and Cranford Avenues, Elizabeth Gaskell Court, the Gaskell Memorial Tower; though Cranford and Matty pharmacies and the Cranford Cake shop have gone.

Literary pilgrims over many years have come to visit Cranford and the last resting place of the author, Elizabeth Gaskell.
