piccolino is a small friendly cafe bar serving the best coffee anywhere. the menu isnt massive but the the food is delicious and i love the new breakfast menu.i love to read the papers and enjoy a late breakfast or just a couple of mugs of wonderful illy coffee. the waiters and waitresses are so nice & there is a lovely laid back atmosphere.

I went last week to Piccolino and I must say i am saddened by the way it's been allowed to go downhill. It used to be such a great little restaurant and the staff were fantastic also. In recent times, it appears to have become scruffy, with staff that don't pay any attention to the customers. They obviously enjoy themselves, as they seem to be just larking around with each other. The food is, at best, average.. The prices are way above that. I won't be going again. I can't actually think of any redeeming factor for Piccolino these days.

We have been to Piccolionos both in central Manchester and here in Knutsford, and I must say I agree with a previous reviewer - the one in Manchester is 10 times better. The atmosphere is not as 'italian' as the central Manchester and there seems to be little warmth as you enter the resturant. Not sure whether this is the decor or the inattentive service you receive. The food is above average, although the menu never changes.

what a great place worth the taxi ride home , thankyou to all the team who made my birthday a real treat. It was packed ( not just my guests) and it really was spot on . Very Smiley manageress and happy team of people the Italian staff really add to the buzz, carry on dancing Leylo ( sorry about spelling). Food was great and the pre order was not too assuming as our garlic breads arrived. great fun thanks

Having moved to Knutsford from restaurant-laden Surrey, we were delighted to find this exceptional gem just 5 minutes from our house. We are steadily working our way through all of the other eateries in Knutsford (purely in the interests of research!) but we keep finding ourselves drawn back to Piccolinos as if by some magnetic force. Having now visited four times in three weeks we feel sufficiently well informed to comment. The surprising consistency of our experiences illustrates the quality and experience of the management team, and having tried between us around 20 different dishes we can also confirm that the quality of the cooking is highly consistent, and always superb. The lively atmosphere and charmingly attentive staff give a genuine Italian feel to the experience, and anyone having spent time eating in Italy will recognise the passion and enthusiasm which has made that country one of the most enjoyable places to eat your way through your holidays. Even when packed to the rafters and dealing with some "challenging" customers, the staff looked after us with more care than we have received in some establishments with only two full tables - one of which was ours (see other reviews!). So, any downsides? Well, not really. Eventually we will have worked our way through the menu so might be ready for a change, but having said that there are always specials (the pumpkin soup was excellent by the way - clearly the only sensible thing to do with a pumpkin), but it would be hard to criticise somewhere for being so good that we go too often!

I must say that I was very disappointed with my visit. They seem very short staffed and the food (when it eventually came - 25 minutes after the order) was only lukewarm. I called the server who was foreign and told her that it was not hot, it then went back to the kitchen and didn't arrive back for another 20 minutes. My girlfriend had already finished her food when my meal eventually came. am glad that she did or hers would have been cold too. The general attitude seemed to be that 'we are busy, so that's what happens' . All in all, it was a poor experience for us both and we won't be going back. It's a shame, because we come to Knutsford generally to peruse the shops and eat out. We'll probably not be coming back to the town as often now. Mike, hungry of Lymm!

Staff pleaseant and polite, food was excellent, minestrone soup starter main course was lamb which was was cooked to perfection, my husband had baked chicken filled with ham and mozarella and served with sweet pepper and tomato sauce, side salad was fresh and crispy, vegetables were beatiful, desert we chose were white chocolate ice cream with strawberries and liquer, and chocolate fudge cake with vanila ice cream again delicious, there was plenty of choice on the menus, an excellent night out , well done to asll the staff who work very hard as it is very busy

This restaurant is always full although for the life of me I am not sure why! I see the staff bend over backwards for some rich regulars but are at times too disinterested in other diners. I have had some good dinners here. I have also had seafood risotto in whcih the mussles were stuffed full of grit, evidentally not washed properly, the salad limp and the squid chewy. I can say that the Manchester Piccolino is ten times better, the best risotto I have eaten outside of Italy.

My review is for Piccolino in Bramahall as I have not visited the Knutsford one. It was the best & most authentic Italian meal we have ever had. The staff could not do enough to make us more welcome. Everything was hot & fresh & that included the rosemarie on the new potatoes. The staff are to be complimented on their enthusiasm & friendly fun service! Will be back asap!!!! Many thanks for such a special evening!

I have to join all those who are saying the food quality is going down towards the river. I paid £13.50 for swordfish in tinned chopped tomatoes. Rosemary potatoes were cold potatoes which had been reheated (you can't mistake the horrid stale taste of reheated potatoes) and I failed to spot the rosemary. Shame, the atmosphere was still good. But I am not going back.

Like many before, I have been to Piccolino's many times but I will not be going for a while. Service was poor, what has happend to the portion sizes?? The main was about the size of a starter. Judging by the other reports they seem unable / unwilling to sort things out. A real shame, but I will be voting with my feet.

Your review text (optional)ususally go here 2 or 3 times a month however I've noticed standards are slipping. Went for a meal last Thursday - 3 of us - took a friend visinting from Cumbria. Starters olives and bruchetta - olives not good and tiny portion a rip off - small portion of bruchetta cold soggy base and cold topping with no flavour straight from fridge -worst I've ever had - complained but told by smiley woman (not sure if maanger) that is how served there main course my friend had risotto again v small portion perhpas they should use bigger plates to make the portions look bigger! my pizza good although not a lot of toppings - toppings in 4 corners not all over the pizza my boyfirends was the same - all in alll v dissapointing - staff are friendly but when you complain not a lot is done. This has always been my fav place to eat but the food has reduced in quality and portion why?? our waitress was v pleasant though also basics - asked for gin and tonic bar staff filled glass to top at bar would be nice to have had a choice of how much to put in - small thing but annoying - won't be rushing back sorry to see it going down

I've eaten here loads of times and I used to love it, good food, atmosphere and service. Reading previous reviews posted back in 2003 its clear that other people agreed. However it has gone downhill I am sad to say, last time I went the food was not great, especially for what they charged. The portions sizes are tiny and my rissoto looked like cat sick. Sorry people - don't waste your money or your time, go to Pastiche instead - cracking!

i would like to defend the hard working staff at Piccolino - the service and food has always been without fault and is very much the place top be in knutsford. The restaurant is noticably cleaner and the staff are always cheerful even when as it usually is , is packed in the small bar area. keepo it up Piccolino

In recent months the restaurant that my friends and I loved has gone down hill. I have been really disapointed with the quality and portions of the food, and equally disapointed with the standards of service. What's going on? What has happened to the place? It's almost like some of the staff don't want to serve you - on many occasions I have had to leave the table during a meal to get my own drink/ashtray/cutlery/enquire about missing items etc. It is not acceptable. I have found the service is worse during quieter times during the day. I don't think we will be going back in a rush.

I have eaten here twice on the recommendation from locals in Knutsford. I was serioulsy disappointed with the food and service, first time round, but thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. I wish I hadn't wasted my time and money. The service was appauling and the food was cold, second time round as well. I suggest you try one of the other restaurants in Knutsford.

I have eaten at Piccolino's on numerous occasions over the past 4 years. I stopped going for a while as I felt the service was poor and the portions too small. In the last few months I ventured back again. The quality of the food is mostly excellent (unless they're really busy when probably understandably it does slip). However, I have now decided that I will not give it another chance. On one occasion I was with a group of friends - one didn't make it so they asked us if we would mind moving - we'd been there for nearly 40 minutes and had been waiting to order - we felt we didn't want to be awkward so moved into a tiny table in the corner - really cramped. We had been on a smoking table but were moved to a non-smoking - and then the service was really slow, and items were forgotten with no apology when this was politely pointed out. I recently went twice with my boyfriend - on both occasions the food was good, service ok but nothing special, but the portions sizes are a disgrace. I ordered a rissotto on the last occasion £7.95 for a vegetarian rissotto - there were only a few mouthfuls there. I left the restaurant hungry. I have heard this comment many times with Piccolinos so how about you actually take notice of people instead of resting on your laurels. It's insulting to be charged £7.95 for what was effectively a starter.

I have been dining at Piccolino Knutsford for just over a year now and mustt say, I adore this place! The staff are fantastic and the new lady manager Lisa is lovely - contrary to other posts, I think she does a fantastic job and is always welcoming! I have not only dined here, but when on a night out, its so nice to sit at the bar and take in the atmosphere. The atmosphere makes the place - I hope Piccolinos is here to stay! Thankyou to all the staff!

staying at a local hotel this restaurant was recommended. What a great night out food fab, service second to non. staff were always at hand even to keep topping the wine up... ha ha get those selling techniques!!! Managers applied their skill at maintaining a quiet restaurant for us with a lively bar area for the late nighters. We will be back ...is there one in Derby ?

went to the famous Picolinos for the first time on saturday night . What started out as a great meal with friends , great service from a very attentive spanish/italian girl turned into a great after dinner place to be - we usually head out to a livelier place but the managers were fun and respected a back dining area and also created the in bar to be it was a good night out . will be trying our local stockton heath one very soon .

Your review text (optional)Eaten at piccolinos on countless occasions and would say its our favourite restaurant in knutsford. Food is generally of a high standard. I do think that considering we eat there at least once a week, very little recognition is ever given to us! I do worry that now its been sold off it will become too much of a chain asthey seem to be opening up piccolino everywhere! Wine selection is naff, nothing but Italian wines now or pay at premium for anything else.

We visited Piccolino's for the first time on Saturday afternoon (23 Oct 04) with my Mother and our two children aged 5 and 3. We were made very welcome, the atmosphere was the right side of buzzy for a young family. The food was the stand-out aspect. The children's calamari was execellent (I didn't eat it all!). The batter was exceptionally light. We will be going back when next in Manchester and have raved about it to our friends.

I was disappointed and somewhat disgusted at the way my companions and I were treated by the management. What should have a been a straightforward matter concerning a complaint we had over a hair found in the food, was turned into a ridiculous rigmarole, where said hair was returned to our table by waiting staff and management on 2 occasions to debate where the hair had come from! We were told, that it was a 'muscle hair' from the kitchen in my friend's mushroom risotto. Regardless of wherabouts in the kitchen this long dark hair had originated, I found that this was a very strange and unacceptable way of dealing with the matter. Furthermore it was surprising that this should be seen as a satisfactory explanation, as why would a muscle (with long dark hair) need to be anywhere near a mushroom dish? More surprising was that there was more seafood, it appears, in my companion's mushroom risotto, than in my seafood dish. I found it incredible and embarrassing on the part of the management, that a simple apology and conclusion to the matter could not be arranged, but instead his repeatedly interrupted our evening ridiculous and less than charming behaviour. Finally the management chose to walk away and ignore our custom. I for one, would prefer to take my business elsewhere in future, there is no shortage of competition and no doubt a restaurant manager with any common sense will show a little more respect and aim to set a good example to their staff in the ways of customer service.

Atmosphere is very nice at Piccolino's, sadly that is my only positive comment. Food took 3/4 hour to arrive, the portion size of the main course was tiny beyond belief - Linguini, chilli and prawns which was a small pile of pasta with four prawns. The waitress told me when I checked that I had got a main course and not a starter. I complained afterwards when paying the bill and got an apology, but not much interest and nothing knocked off the bill. Won't be rushing back.

we've used Piccolinos fairly regularly over the past 3 years so, when it came to celebrate my wifes 40th it seemed a good bet, sadly it dissapointed. the 'caprese' was dismal, a sad, flavourless half tomato accompanied by some tired thin mozzerella. No sign of fabulous pungent olive oil or aromatic Basil as I seemed to remember from previous visits, however, we both ordered Veal with mushrooms and chose some minted peas, spinach, and rosemary/garlic roast potatoes as our second course. Unfortunately our waiter failed to mention the dish came with spinach anyway, so that side order became redundant, and we searched our taste buds in vain to detect rosemary on the roasties. A couple of large glasses of grigio each left us with a bill, that, had these small details been absent, would hve seen us replete and happy, this was not the case however, and we left feeling slightly irked. Hey ho, the small things really do matter, dont you think?

We had an excellent Mother's Day lunch at Piccolinos. The menu was wide ranging, and a lot of thought had gone into the "specials (which we both had !). Our daugter enjoyed her pasta , and was delighted when the waiter gave her some extra slices of parmesan on her own side dish! Super desserts, and excellent advice on the wine to choose, as the Frascati supply had run out! There's not a lot more to say - 10 stars all round.

Eaten here 3 or 4 times. Service was always poor but the last occasion had one of the most bizarre experiences ever in a restaurant. The owner must be related to Basil Fawlty. Getting a drink at the bar was a challenge as Basil wasn't interested in serving. After being in the place an hour we were given a table but then forgotten by the waiters. Order eventually taken after a further 15 minutes. After another 20 minutes enquired how long the food would be and were given a torrent of abuse. We left hungry. Wild horses wouldn't drag me in there again!
